The Making of a Film Idol
00:34  - 3 years ago
The Making of a Film Idol is a feature length expose documentary of a unique film talent search that took place in the United Kingdom in 2003. It is also an unintentionally comical guide on what not to do when casting a film. Narrated by Richard E. Grant and featuring 14 original R' n' B and Hip Hip tracks, the story follows an entrepreneur, who teamed up with a self styled producer to form the biggest talent search the UK Film Industry had seen, they called it "Film Idol". The project would launch an online casting database, which the producer would use to register hopefuls, chose 86, and cast them in his long awaited film,"The Guv'nor" based on the biography of East End hard man Lenny Mclean. Those that fitted the profile would then be picked from the database to attend auditions at the end of the tour at , Equinox Night Club in London's Leicester Square "Film Idol" toured 30 night club venues throughout the UK, with night time presentations made to packed clubs, followed by day time roadshows (not so packed) to recruit hopefuls to the search. With over 80,000 people attending the tour and with press, TV, and Radio coverage, you also get to see some celebrities and actors audition. The documentary shows the varying degrees of talent in the UK today and the desperation of the 21st Century "Reality TV" generation.
