Weapons of Musical Destruction. Now with subtitles. This is a time lapse video of a small crew building a piano case tossing trebuchet. Jeff of the Junkyard Wars team The NERDS, designed the machine, and with the help of a crew from B+M fabrication of Gilbertsville, PA, fabricated it out of (mostly) scrap steel in two days.
This is a very non-traditional machine, starting with all-steel construction. (not a single bit of wood anywhere) Its also a single sided design, with only one upright strut. It uses half of a rear axle from a semi-tractor to support the throwing arm.
The counterweight was a collection of structural iron, weighing about 2 tons. The rest of the machine added another 5,000 lb to the total.
