Excitement was in the air as the news spreads through Central Nova that four of Canada’s top authors will be speaking in New Glasgow this month. On October 24th, Margaret Atwood, Farley Mowat, Graeme Gibson and Linda Little would be reading in a literary night in New Glasgow at Trinity United Church, 151 Temperance Street, sponsored by the Central Nova Riding Association of the Green Party of Canada.
“Anything I can do to help Elizabeth May in her efforts to gain a seat and thus give the Green vote a voice in Parliament is a pleasure," said Margaret Atwood, who joined the Green Party last year to support Elizabeth's leadership bid. She would be reading from her new book Moral Disorder as well as her book of poetry, The Door. Graeme C. Gibson, Member of the Order of Canada, would be reading from his Bedside Book of Birds. Gibson and Atwood have been active on the environmental front for many years.
Farley Mowat, beloved author of well known books such as Owls in the Family and The Boat Who Wouldn’t Float, is also known for his conservation work, most recently donating an important piece of coastal land in Cape Breton. Says Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and candidate in Central Nova, “I am still stunned Farley offered to do this. He has not offered a public reading in a number of years, so this is simply huge. I am so pleased to bring this event to New Glasgow.”
Linda Little, from River John, would be reading from Scotch River, winner of the 2007 Thomas Head Raddall Atlantic Fiction Prize and the Dartmouth Book Award.
The readings would be followed by a reception and book signing by Margaret Atwood, Graeme Gibson and Linda Little.Excitement was in the air as the news spreads through Central Nova that four of Canada’s top authors will be speaking in New Glasgow this ...todo »Excitement was in the air as the news spreads through Central Nova that four of Canada’s top authors will be speaking in New Glasgow this month.
