This is how I took the Cargobob helicopter from the "Area 69" military base when I was not really supposed to do so (soon after "OG Loc" mission). Got shooted by "only" one missile just before the takeoff! Then, after providing CJ with some extra protection (body armor) in Las Venturas airport, I dodged some other missiles going toward Dillimore and, once landed, I've had a very hard time looking for a damn car to take into the local Pay'n'Spray! I got shooted several times by the cops... but then, with a very little bit of health remaining, I found a car, headed for the P'n'S and finally went back home with a new flying toy!
