Auschwitz Birkenau
08:58  - 3 years ago
Visit the infamous Nazi death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau, surrounded by its original barbed wire fencing, guard watch towers, concentration camp barracks and crematoria, where more than 1.5 million victims, the vast majority of them Jews, were put to death during the Holocaust. Enter the camp through the gates cynically named ‘Arbeit Mach Frei’, "work makes you free", and see the Polish State Archives museum with its seemingly endless piles of Jewish prayer shawls (Tallitot), dairy and meat pots and pans, suitcases and human hair – all that remains from the victims of mass murder committed more than 60 years ago by the German Nazis and their collaborators. Victims arrived by train at the northern Birkenau camp, where all but the strong and healthy were selected for death by Dr. Josef Mengele and his associates. Moving footage of the death camp and its present day memorials to the victim of Nazism. [Click on 'download' for higher quality viewing directly on your PC or Mac].
