In Jordan where artistic, political, and other forms of expression are often discouraged or muted, citizens often devise novel ways of entertaining themselves. This is particularly true amongst the youth who have, during the past few months, developed an underground movement involving muscle cars. Every Friday after the evening (Maghrib) prayers, the "initiated" receive text messages about the location of the "ijtima' " (meeting), a euphemism for the muscle car competition. All participants are given between 1-2 minutes to skid out and perform other tricks with the crowd deciding the champ after each "meeting" each week.
