Despite major increases in development aid in recent years, some of the most important global challenges - AIDS, hunger, education - remain intractable. Some innovative approaches have started to show success, but questions remain about how foreign aid can be more effectively coupled with advances in technology, know-how and enterprise.
1) What can be learned from the successes and failures of the past?
2) What innovative approaches achieve holistic and synergistic results, and how can they be scaled up?
3) What forms of non-cash contributions make a difference?
• William Easterly, Professor, Economics Department, New York University, USA
• William H. Gates III, Chairman, Microsoft Corporation, USA
• Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia
• Paul D. Wolfowitz, President, World Bank, Washington DC
