October 17, 2006 Village Board meeting in Carpentersville, Illinois -- Village Board members debate with discussing and voting on the Illegal Immigration Relief ordinance proposed by trustees Paul Humpher and Judy Sigwalt. The ordinance would fine businesses that are found to hire or rent to undocumented (illegally residing) individuals, and remove all non-English language materials and services from Villge government. After much discussion, the Board votes 4-3 to have the Ordinance tabled to await the outcome of the Hazelton, Pennsylvania. Trustees voting for the tabling were President Bill Sarto, Trustees Linda Ramirez Sliwinski, Jim Frost, and Ed Ritter. Trustees voting against the tabling were Paul Humpher, Judy Sigwalt, and Kay Teeter.
Ironically, just one month after a municipal election, members from each side completely reverse their positions on the ordinance. Media coverage of the reversal can be read at http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/couriernews/news/441477,3_1_EL24_A1CVILLE_S2.articleOctober 17, 2006 Village Board meeting in Carpentersville, Illinois -- Village Board members debate with discussing and voting on the Illega...all »October 17, 2006 Village Board meeting in Carpentersville, Illinois -- Village Board members debate with discussing and voting on the Illegal Immigration Relief ordinance proposed by trustees Paul Humpher and Judy Sigwalt.
