The Transplant House will be located near the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Designed to meet the unique needs of transplant patients and their families, the house will feature many of the comforts of home:
* Furnished rooms with double beds
* Kitchen facilities
* Computers and Internet access
* Laundry room
* Telephone liaison to the transplant floor
* Comprehensive education center
* Conveniently located near shopping and restaurants
* Continuously running shuttle to the hospital
Clyde F. Barker, MD, performed the first kidney transplant at Penn; established the region’s first comprehensive transplant program, which was the basis for the Penn Transplant Institute; and conducted work in surgical immunology that led to the development of Penn’s islet cell transplantation program.Comfort and Convenience in Challenging Times
