An Oral History of Islam in Pittsburgh
1:09:52  - 3 years ago
This documentary explores the rich history of Islam in Pittsburgh, PA, home of the First Muslim Mosque, the first mosque in the United States to be chartered by indigenous Muslims. It also explores the indigenous community's evolution through groups such as the Moorish Science Temple, the Ahmadiyah, and the Nation of Islam. In closing, the film looks at the recent influx of immigrant Muslims in the community, and their intermingling, and also examines problems that we face today, and in the future. Though this film is set and revolves around figures in Pittsburgh, it tells a story similar in all parts of the US, one of individuals searching for identity and purpose.
