This is a small DC motor made by Knapp Electric and Novelty Co. of New York. In 1916 Carl Bergman Jr. who worked for Knapp invented an improved switch for the Gilbert Erector Set DC motor (P58) and later Gilbert bought out Knapp. I didn't know about this when I first got this motor and put it on my Gilbert DC motor web page because of the very similar construction. They both have a three pole armature and simple metal brush type commutator. My web page for this motor is:
