Mordechai Vanunu,is an Israeli former nuclear technician who revealed details of Israel's nuclear weapons program to the British press in 1986. He was subsequently kidnapped in Rome by Israeli agents and smuggled to Israel, where he was tried and convicted of treason.
Mordechai Vanunu spent 18 years in prison, including more than 11 years in solitary confinement. Vanunu was released from prison in 2004, subject to a broad array of restrictions on his speech and movement. Since then he has been briefly arrested several times for violations of those restrictions, including giving various interviews to foreign journalists and attempting to leave Israel.
Amnesty International issued a press release on July 2, 2007, stating that "The organization considers Mordechai Vanunu to be a prisoner of conscience and calls for his immediate and unconditional release." Vanunu has been characterized by some as a whistleblower and by others as a traitor.

In Israele Vanunu sconta 18 anni di carcere, di cui 11 in isolamento. Il suo rilascio, al termine del periodo di detenzione, viene subordinato al rispetto di una serie di provvedimenti restrittivi della sua libertà tra i quali il divieto di concedere interviste, di lasciare Israele, di possedere un cellulare e di connettersi a Internet. A causa della violazione di queste regole, Vanunu ha subito diversi arresti e condanne minori.
