The storage industry talks about "virtualization" in static and device-specific contexts, while enterprise IT organizations are under pressure to deliver a range of data "services" to their customers, with a tiered pricing model and verifiable service levels. These disparate producer- and consumer-oriented views of storage leave an implementation gap that must be filled in order to realize the "virtual everything" vision of enterprise grid computing.
