New York Panyards 2005
06:09  - 2 years ago
New York - Steelband music recordings specialist Basement Recordings has released the long-awaited NY Panyards 2005 DVD. The 2-Disc set is part of a series of high level multimedia performance products designed to deliver an authentic big band, steel orchestra sonic and visual experience into the home of the audience. Basement Recordings has a long history of capturing and producing unparalleled steelband music productions that showcase the beauty and power of the steelband music instrument family. This 2005 addition to the series is truly special as it offers a two-disc package containing the two final classic music arrangements of the Caribbean-born music genius Clive Bradley. The arrangements as preformed by two of the bands featured on the DVD (Pantonic Steel Orchestra and D'Radoes Steel Orchestra) would go on to make music history by capturing the championship title and second place honors respectively in the renowned New York Panorama competition. The late great master steelband music arranger passed three months later in November of 2005. Also included on this DVD are arrangements by noted musicians/arrangers Pelham Goddard, Yohan Popwell, Arddin Herbert, Brian "Bean" Griffith and Freddie Harris, III & Andy Akiho. The arrangements are masterly performed by Pantonic, D'Radoes, Sonatas, CASYM, Marsicans, Crossfire and Sesame Flyers. The 2-disc DVD set would be of particular interest to educators and performing musicians involved in the steelband music artform, in addition to steelband enthusiasts, ethnomusicologists and musical historians. The DVD will be available primarily online and directly from participating performing steel orchestras. Clive Bradley's deft manipulation of western music themes, genres, and interweaving of urban, Latin, African and world beat influences and nuances - always left his competitors, fans and new discoverers alike - in a place, somewhere between awe and musical ecstasy. As expected the passing of master arranger Clive Bradley has left a serious void in the steelpan music world. Mr. Bradley rose to global prominence and received critical acclaim through the musical masterpieces he created for the legendary Desperadoes Steel Orchestra in Trinidad, and the New York powerhouse, Pantonic Steel Orchestra. Considered by many to be the world's greatest composer/arranger for the steelband orchestra, the renowned Mr. Bradley created magic and classics that are now required listening for all serious music educators, players, students and fans. Indeed, Mr. Bradley earned the respect of his peers and enjoyed an acknowledged genius-level status that few musicians ever achieve in their lifetime. Only Bradley could bring laughter to your lips and tears to your eyes in the same piece. 2005's "Action," the last winning panorama arrangement by the late legendary Master arranger Clive Bradley, as performed by Pantonic Steel Orchestra the Friday night before New York's panorama - is one of the treasures included on the NY Panyards 2005 DVD. The recording captures the power, greatness and beauty of the orchestra as almost 100 players execute and musically illustrate Bradley's masterpiece, which in itself demonstrates this master arranger's genius to discern, interpret and infuse the New York urban experience with the Caribbean music genre. Pantonic went on to capture their fifth panorama title in seven years, with Action on Saturday, the following night. The musical and historical significance of this DVD speaks for itself.
