2007 Century Battery Drag Racing Nationals - Record Breaking Attempt!

On Sunday 11th February, Champion Dragway, Meremere, held the Century Battery Nationals. Willie White was at the event with his Nitro Funny Car hoping to break Garth Hogan’s 5.55 second, quarter mile record which was set in 1990. Willie had previously completed a 5.58 second quarter mile pass in this car. Willie was to have 2 runs throughout the day to attempt the record.
His first attempt of the day, also only his first time driving the car at full throttle, broke the 17 year old record. Willie went down the quarter mile in 5.47 seconds at 247.3 mph.
Although having already broken the New Zealand record, Willie and his team completely rebuilt the engine and did a second pass in the afternoon. He backed up the morning’s record breaking run with an equally impressive pass of 5.55 seconds.
