CEPR Seminar 10: Patents, Copyrights, & Other Protectionist Barriers
50:17  - 3 years ago
This session will cover the role of patents and copyrights - how the government imposes monopolies to provide incentives. We will point out the cost of patent monopolies in prescription drugs (@ $150 billion a year, or $2000 for a family of four). The session will then examine alternatives to patent financing for prescription drug research (has anyone heard of the National Institutes of Health?). We will also point out alternatives to copyrights for supporting music, movies, and software: artistic freedom vouchers (yes, progressives can like vouchers). *** View Dr. Baker's PowerPoint presentation here: http://www.cepr.net/seminars/powerpoints/2005_11_17.ppt
