Inaugural INDIANAPOLIS MONUMENTAL MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON November 1, 2008 Start/finish line near the Indiana State Capitol www.monumentalmarathon.com We are proud to announce the inaugural Indianapolis Monumental Marathon and Half Marathon (IMM) will be November 1, 2008. Two-time Olympian Bob Kennedy, Honorary Chair of the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon & Half Marathon, stated: “the marathon course is truly flat and fast, and should be a good Boston qualifier.” This new urban course highlights a number of Indianapolis landmarks, historic streets and beautiful neighborhoods including the Indiana State Capitol, Arts Garden, Lucas Oil Stadium, Circle Center Mall, Warehouse District, Eli Lilly Headquarters, Monument Circle, Federal buildings / monuments, the Massachusetts Avenue District, Pennsylvania Avenue through Fall Creek Place, Meridian Street, Washington Boulevard, Meridian-Kessler, Butler University, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Half-marathoners will follow the marathoners for the first seven miles at which time they will separate, then rejoin the marathoners again at their 8½ mile mark and the marathoners at their 22½ mile mark. Both courses will be USATF sanctioned and certified with the marathon course serving as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. Ken Long of KLA Associates (IMM race director and organizer), with over 30 years of race and event planning experience, stated: “we are in no way connected to the IndyClassic marathon that was proposed in 2007.” The marathon and half-marathon will be limited to a combined 5,000 for 2008 with the goal of becoming one of the “top 30 marathons” listed on www.MarathonGuide.com. Carlton Ray, IMM President stated “you can stay downtown in one of the many fine hotels including the Hilton Garden Inn and Conrad with easy access to the start/finish line near the Indiana State Capitol and enjoy many great restaurants and features of downtown Indianapolis.” Please go to www.monumentalmarathon.com for more information and registration. We hope to see you at the finish line!
