Business and Industry - Greece New York
01:13  - 3 years ago
Business and Industry - Greece NY Originally Greece was mainly an agricultural community due to the rich, glacial soil that covered the area. Along with Greece s fertile land is convenient access to Lake Ontario, the Genesee River, Erie Canal, and Ridge Road. These two characteristics made Greece become a vital transportation center and major supplier of farm produce. Greece remained an agricultural community up until the twentieth century. With continuing expansions of Kodak Park and increased residential growth, many farms and orchards gave way to new homes. There are currently several large corporations along with Eastman Kodak that are located in the Town of Greece, such as Gannett, IBM, Bausch & Lomb, and Xerox Corporation. The Greece Chamber of Commerce was organized in 1982 as the Greece Business and Professional Association. It became the Greece Chamber of Commerce in 1985. The purpose of the Chamber of Commerce is to promote interests of the business community and encourage and stimulate active participation of its members in order to bring about economic growth.
