This weekly colloquium on Global Issues, co-sponsored by College 9 and the Center for Global, International, and Regional Studies, seeks to present, examine and discuss important global issues confronting the world today. Through weekly presentations by leading experts, drawn from UCSC faculty and visiting speakers, the series will both detail current challenges and work toward understanding possible solutions. Each speaker will provide a foundation to understand the political, social, and economic issues related to natural resources and human needs. It is offered every quarter with a different topical focus. The colloquium is open to all students, faculty, and the public.
During Spring, 2006, speakers will focus on “Sustainable Santa Cruz.” What makes a city “sustainable?” Energy use? Architecture? Businesses? States of mind?
