Belfast digital media company Awakin, in association with NIScreen and the White Star Line Archive, bring the rich maritime heritage of Titanic Quarter to life with the launch of TITANIC ISLAND – INTERACTIVE. Ti-i will develop online over the next two years to encompass the impressive achievements of shipbuilding and marine engineering on Queen’s Island, charting the development of the oceanliner in the period 1871-1914. This rich visual content, digital archive and amazing stories will be delivered in several sections; “Birth of a Shipping Empire”, “Racing for the Record”, ‘Cathedrals in Steel”, “The Power and the Glory” and “Queen’s Island Charts”.
The objective of this dynamic site is to engage the community on a wider basis in articulating the story from the perspective of the many knowledgeable people out there, within Belfast’s community, with a story to tell about shipyard life and practices of the past. Educational resources compliment the online experience, which is, in the near future, set to become downloadable to a personal device, such as an iPod or iPhone.
