On September 11th, 2008 Michael Nutter delivered his first major speech on education as Mayor of Philadelphia. In the speech, he called on parents to become more involved in their children's lives and detailed numerous programs to achieve two major goals. His first is to reduce the student dropout rate and second is to increase the number of students graduating from college.
