This sermon was delivered March 15, 2009 (The Ides of March) by Pastor Nelson Turner of AV1611Reformation.com and sites.google.com/site/AV1611Reformation. It concerns the prophet Elijah and God's care for him after he had boldly stood before King Ahab and prophecied the drought and famine that was to come upon Israel for her fornication with Baal.
Although the man of God did not have it all conveniently his way henceforth, God sustained him throughout the ministry He had ordained in witness against the wickedness of Israel and her neighbors.
God's elect may find encouragement in the survival of Elijah throughout the many ordeals he faced against enemies that hated him. God, especially evidenced in the image of the Lord Jesus Christ as The Good Shepherd, cares for His sheep, His people chosen by His sovereign will unto eternal life.
The lives of His faithful in this world are as prone to travail as those of unbelievers -- though even here the mercies of the Lord are frequently and wondrously manifested to His elect. Still, their life in the Lord -- certain, irrevocable, eternal -- is a sustaining hope for those washed in the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ who have faith in His resurrection.
Pastor Turner began his preaching today with a reminder to all that the freedoms and propsperity enjoyed in Western Europe and America since the Reformation are directly attributable to the Bible being available to all for reading and instruction, and to the great Reformer John Calvin. (All are admonished to consider that as Rome led by the Jesuit "army" marches unchecked to reestablish papal hegemony over the governments of the earth, Christians increasingly witness the loss of freedom and the specter of a dark age of superstition, fear, and tyranny over conscience.)
Scripture used in this sermon includes: 1Kings17/ Ephesians4:8/ Isaiah49:24-25/ Lamentations3:34/ John7:26/ Hebrews13:6/ James5:17/ 1Corinthians5:9-10.
