Piano Chord Substitutions #2: How to substitute a minor 7th chord for any dominant 7th chord. Whenever a dominant 7th chord occurs and you want to change the sound a bit, you can substitute the minor 7th chord that is a perfect 4th below the dominant 7th, as long as the melody note does not conflict with it.
