This is a device I made with some help from my grandfather. It's purpose is to drive a blank pickup coil form so that very fine magnet wire (.002") can be wraped around the magnet poles. As a steel guitar string vibrates over the magnet, the string cuts through the invisible magnetic flux lines inducing a voltage in that fine wire wraped around the magnets. The 2 ends of the wire eventually get attached to a guitar cord and the signal can be amplified. The theory is simple but actually winding the pickup is very difficult to do without breaking the wire. This pickup is extremely overwound with 17,000 turns. Getting to the point of the video took about 1 year of experimenting. The pickups sound great and I have made several.
