First Man in Space - Skydiving From The Edge Of The World (Extended Version)
06:54  - 2 years ago
WHO WAS REALLY THE FIRST MAN IN SPACE? (April 19, 2007) In this debatable question, one should first ask himself; where does space really start? In his book, “SPACE EXPLORATION - FROM TALISMAN OF THE PAST TO GATEWAY FOR THE FUTURE” – CHAPTER 3, John F. Graham sheds some light on this issue, and shares interpretations made by some experts. You will found out fast that there are no straight answers for this question. The question on whom was the first guy in space is not yet to be resolved… http://www.space.edu/projects/book/chapter3.html -------------------------------------------------------CBS NEWS: "The Real First Man In Space Not Astronaut; Test Pilot Went Up Via Balloon In 1960, Then Jumped Out" http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/04/13/earlyshow/main1496715.shtml -------------------------------------------------------First Man in Space - Skydiving From The Edge Of The World (Extended Version)//// On August 16, 1960, Joseph Kittinger jumped his last Excelsior jump, doing so from an air-thin height of 102,800 feet (31,334 meters). From that nearly 20 miles altitude, his tumble toward terra firma took some 4 minutes and 36 seconds. Exceeding the speed of sound during the fall, Kittinger used a small stabilizing chute before a larger, main parachute opened in the denser atmosphere. He safely touched down in barren New Mexico desert, 13 minutes 45 seconds after he vaulted into the void. The jump set records that still stand today, among them, the highest parachute jump, the longest freefall, and the fastest speed ever attained by a human through the atmosphere. Somewhat in contention is Kittinger's use of the small parachute for stabilization during his record-setting fall. Roger Eugene Andreyev, a Russian, is touted as holding the world's free fall record of 80,325 feet (24,483 meters), made on November 1, 1962. http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/technology/space_diving_010608-1.html SONG USED IN THIS VIDEO IS: "In A State" by UNKLE - (from album SELF DEFENCE disc 2 (Moby - God Moving Over The Face Of The Water) // Thanks Roy & Anonymous)
